flameout pattern

An approach pattern normally conducted by a single-engine military aircraft experiencing the loss or the anticipated loss of power. The pilot approaches overhead and attempts to fly to the points high key, mid key, and low key, as indicated in the illustration. If the aircraft is below the specified height at any of these points, the pilot takes a shortcut and attempts to make the next point at the designated height.
